Sunena
Written by Leela Kiyawat
Directed by Fabiola Arias
Sunena, the performer; Billie, the director; and Anna, the dramaturg: welcome to the devising group from hell. With the help of a life-sized puppet, three theater-makers embark on a journey of performative recreation. As they dig into Sunena’s past, hoping to mine some material, the question of whether or not they can hold solidarity, resist exploitation, and summon up enough respect for each other remains yet to be answered.

“When the parrot went to sleep last week, the moon was very bright, so she flew up to take a look. But it was too big to look at all at once, so she did the one thing a parrot with three heads should never do. She looked at herself…and her three heads twisted into each other, and her three necks intertwined, and…there’s no other way to say it. She strangled herself to death, on the moon, in the night…”
